The living wage highlights the amount of money people need to earn in order to cover basic living expenses,

“the Ontario Living Wage Network promotes an employer certification program and maintains minimum rates for each municipality in Ontario which for Greater Sudbury is currently $16.98”. Many workers struggle to make ends meet, living paycheck to paycheck. Unable to afford healthy food, take sick days, and be in a financially comfortable and secure position.

The minimum wage is not enough to live on and will not affect the cost of living, regardless of opposing beliefs. After the aftermath of the COVID-pandemic, many workers have found themselves in a position where their wages are not promised, we must ensure workers are being paid secure and stable wages. Not to mention, implementing a living wage could result in a wide range of social, local economic and even labour market benefits, especially here in the City of Greater Sudbury.
