Sudbury Living Wage

What is a living wage?

The living wage differs from the provincially mandated minimum wage. Instead, it results from calculations drawing on community-specific data to determine expenses that two working parents with two children have. Living wage employers voluntarily decide that it is the right thing to do.

The living wage is the hourly pay required to cover necessities such as food, clothing, shelter, and transportation. Not only does the living wage allow employees to subsist, but it also provides them access to a decent quality of life with the ability to participate in their communities as healthy and active social citizens.

Two full-time employees in Sudbury, working 37.5 hours per week, with two young children to support, would need to make $16.98 an hour to afford the above necessities and fully participate in their community both socially and economically.
